The Heart Behind Glenarvon Farm
Sayre grew up in Richmond, Virginia and always dreamed of a farm and horses of her own. In 1996 she saw an advertisement for a farm for sale in Bremo Bluff, not realizing how it would change the trajectory of her life, took a chance and bought it. Since then Glenarvon has set the scene for many adventures and experiences, creating memories for people of all walks of life. With Sayre came the legacy of her grandfather, Billy Ireland, a famous political cartoonist for the Columbus Dispatch; his signature shamrock with encircling tail quickly became the hallmark logo for Glenarvon Farm. Sayre is passionate about horses, collecting carriages, and loves seeing people enjoy her lovely farm. She is truly the heat beat of Glenarvon Farm.
Bill has been a part of Glenarvon for 30 years. Bill is a lawyer by trade and has kept the farm running, not only with his legal expertise, but has been a key player in the maintenance required to keep a property of this size up and running. He enjoys running a small herd of cows, he knows the quirks of each piece of equipment on the farm and can fix most anything when it breaks! Bill is a researcher and has extensively studied the history of Glenarvon farm and anything related to its past owners. Because of his efforts, we have the ability to ensure that the history of Glenarvon remains a part of it's future.
Marcus and Lauri first came to Glenarvon in 2024. Their experience in hosting events—bringing horses and people together fit with Sayre's vision and a partnership quickly formed! Marcus, the recently retired Director of Investigations and Inspections Unit for the American Kennel Club, is enjoying his retirement seated on a tractor, doing farm maintenance, schooling their driving horses. He currently holds a position on the Board of Directors for the Carriage Association of America. In years past, Lauri homeschooled their five children, ran a therapeutic riding center, and finally got her first horse at the age of 40. She is passionate about helping people enjoy their horses, spending time with their three granddaughters, and is currently training her next trail/driving horse.
Glendon caught hold of the Glenarvon vision when his parents moved to the farm in 2024. As a program director for a NC wilderness outfitter, he seasonally guides and coordinates logistics, leaving time to help work the farm on the 'off' seasons. His passion for wilderness conservation, determined work ethic, and ultimate handyman skills has made him an essential part of the Glenarvon Team.
